{"id":912,"date":"2014-09-15T21:23:08","date_gmt":"2014-09-15T20:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/eng.richardaseguin.com\/?p=912"},"modified":"2022-03-22T13:25:52","modified_gmt":"2022-03-22T12:25:52","slug":"b3-project-bill-frisells-throughout","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/eng.richardaseguin.com\/?p=912","title":{"rendered":"B3 Project &#8211; Bill Frisell&#8217;s &#8220;Throughout&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bill Frisell&#8217;s composition \u201cThroughout\u201d, which he first recorded in 1983, has been revisited several times by its author in the last 30 years, both in the studio and in concert, accompanied by many fine musicians who have contributed to the song&#8217;s alluring character. It is, in my opinion, Frisell&#8217;s most soulful and spiritual composition. Its progression of diminished, major, minor and half-diminished chords is the perfect conduit for Frisell&#8217;s inspired playing which, over the years, has lifted \u201cThroughout\u201d to the status of a veritable jazz aria.<\/p>\n<p>My version of the piece was recorded in the classic B3 trio set-up (guitar, B3 organ, drums) using my Fender Stratocaster 40<sup>th<\/sup> Anniversary Edition electric guitar and my Z6S MIDI guitar for the organ and percussion parts. Various influences inevitably surface in my playing and some of the organ makes me think of Procul Harum, one of my favourite bands of the 60s. I also winked at my brother Gabriel by changing Frisell&#8217;s tempo of 90 bpm (beats per minute) down to 88 bpm (Gabi played the piano, which has 88 keys).<\/p>\n<p>All this music that is in me would never have been without Gabi, who took the time to teach me about<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_910\" style=\"width: 263px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/eng.richardaseguin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Throughout-018.jpg\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-910\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-910\" src=\"http:\/\/eng.richardaseguin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Throughout-018-253x300.jpg\" alt=\"Stratocaster and Z6S\" width=\"253\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/eng.richardaseguin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Throughout-018-253x300.jpg 253w, https:\/\/eng.richardaseguin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Throughout-018-865x1024.jpg 865w, https:\/\/eng.richardaseguin.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Throughout-018.jpg 1814w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 253px) 100vw, 253px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-910\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stratocaster and Z6S<\/p><\/div>\n<p>the marvelous music of the 50s, in spite of our <span lang=\"fr-CA\">age <\/span>difference of 14 years. <span lang=\"fr-CA\">Thanks to him, m<\/span>usic has defined my life and given me a sense of purpose \u2013 it is evident that I would not be who I am if Gabi had not intervened when I was 6 years old. He was a wonderful brother.
